3rd PERIOD -- BEGINNING SPANISH (10:05-11:05)
Beginning my fifteenth year teaching Spanish here at DNHS; prior to moving to Colorado, taught high school Spanish, English, and ESL (ELL) in Indiana for fifteen years. • Developed a special interest in languages and music while in high school; along with studying Latin and Spanish, participated in choral events, including our high school musical. • Graduated high school as class valedictorian; attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, to study English and Spanish Education, joining three other cousins as a first-generation college student. Earned a Master's Degree in Education from Purdue University. • First teaching assignment back at my former high school; coincidentally two of my high school classmates also began their first teaching assignments alongside me. • Married to my junior high school sweetheart, parents of three children and seven grandchildren; our youngest child, a graduate of Del Norte High School, lives and works here in the Valley. • Since 1990 have sponsored student travel; DNHS students have had the opportunity to travel to Mexico, Arizona, south Texas, and Spain in 2011 and 2015. • Travel broadens a student's understanding of the world. Watching a student attain the reality of language and culture is a language teacher's greatest fulfillment; I look forward to sharing that connection with my students each day.
